Camperama was fun til the rains came. Our A-frame tent collapsed, the kitchen tent collpased and all the dome tents were flooded. it kinda dampened our mood (hahaha), but the campfire warmed the atmosphere (hahaha).

the afternoon it rained, one of the organisers volunteered to drive us out to get lunch. her name escapes me, though i remember her high boots that made her seem even shortter than she was. so shide, kelvin and I go to get lunch, and we came back with 19 packets of chicken rice for 10 people. i was on a diet so i ate only one pack. which was quite alrite considering i had a little something when we went to get lunch. well some other ppl also had a little something but he still had his two packets. i am in awe of tt.

oh the best part was the campfire and movies. they caterers had gotten some huge roasted lamb which was just so yummy... mm... there wasn't much left for us for dinner though, but then there was extra satay n someone had to finish it.... =)

then during the campfire, kelvin set his sights on some RP girl... hahas. and guess what? ram was toking abt the same girl too. well we can guess how it ended. heartbreak kid. n there was the friendship dance, chu yong kept dancing with me for some reason. i was about to move on to do the dance with some RP girl, yes kelvin's target. but chu yong kept pullin me back. some bonds just can't be broken. so i danced with some kid who was reali cute - adorable.

they screened enchanted which is seriously sooooo sooooo romantic... wow. n who else would be near kelvin during tt movie, the RP girl. what a coincidence! thn i went down to the beach to snooze with lsd. he found it cold so we came back to watch Ah Long Pte Ltd. NO SUBTITLES!!! =( i pulled up three chairs n slept only to wake up jus when 300 was starting..

the movie was in its full uncensored uncut glory. n 5yr old kids were watching it!!! wth. only abt 13yrs underaged. somebomb!! so heads were rolling, blood spraying and clothes being torn off. luckily we had mervin to shield us from those horrid scenes. the heads rolling part was too much for me n i wonder hw the 5yr old kids could watch it...

the next day, we were on our way back in the truck and someone whipped out his phone and takes pics:

so kelvin tries to look cute. what a hottie!
come to think of it he looks more pathetic than hot or cute in the 2nd one. kinda lyk a fugitive on a truck desperately asking u to keep silent or else he'd be dead. - hehes.

then i try, unfortunately, some ppl dun reali have to look cute to be liked. sadly i am one of them.
and then dehong tries. hehe shide your finger is a little too high up man. he kinda looks lyk the troll frm enchanted. but u can't deny that he is P.H.A.T - pretty hot and tough...

Venture CIP

We sprayed, wiped, dusted, pasted, lifted, ate, slept and played. Venture CIP. whee...

the first day was slack. re-labelling of tables n chairs, n thn slacking in the canteen, before pouncing on the bee hoon tt De hong bought.

well then someone found a secret corner in the Hideout. and it became the place to be. until... the big shiddy fell asleep there....

We disinfected and wiped somemore on the second day. the best part is tt now i noe tt young kids will not get hand foot and mouth disease beacuse of the wiping n cleaning that we have done. you never noe how an act so small and seemingly meaningless, can mean so much to the person sitting at that chair n touhcing everything that he can reach.

He can now touch in confidence. Knowing that every wall, chair, table leg, shelf and door knob he touches is a clean one. Making it rather touching to do CIP.

So then hao qin, kelvin, de hong, shide, ram and i went to play squash. and well kelvin was trying to steal a glance at shide. how naughty! well in the 8 matches i played against koala i won 5. hehes. well i guess squash just is my thing.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5206866010711091170" style="DISPLAY: block; (Provided that operating the parachute is as easy as just pulling that one and only strap)

Reached Woodlands Ring Pri Sch at 10.25am, 35 minutes early. If you would like to phrase it in a nice way, I am being punctual, but if you like to phrase it in a nastier way I am an idiot who doesn't know how to gauge how long I take to walk 1km. (20 minutes off target since I wanted to reach there 15 min early)

Survival lecture was in the scouts den which was air-conditioned. I sat right in the face of the air-con so I was freezing, while the rest of the scouts at the back were complaining of the heat.Went for lunch, had to eat at a hawker centre precisely on the MRN/MGR given to us by Kumaran. Navigated there using a topo map. Quite lame but thats a little bit of training.

Went to some jungle near Republic Polytechnic to get started on the practical part. We had to walk past some clearing near the lodges of the foreign workers working at a construction site, and guess what we saw.

Condom packets.
Condom packets.
And more condom packets.
Refer to Yanwei's blog for picture as he is too busy (lazy) to upload it again.

Then we took a 10 minute hike into the depths of the jungle. Walking over stuff like garbage, vines, mud (yes, a lot) and rotten tree roots which look ok but crumble into termites + rotten stuff when you step on them.

Anyway we started on our shelter building. We were split into 5 teams of 6. We had to build the shelters with whatever natural resources we could find. And at the end, there would be a test on the waterproofity/waterproofness of the shelters.

Came the "inspection" of the shelters, so we had to get the largest member (Shide) of the team to hide inside the shelter and Kumaran would pour water on the shelter to see if it is waterproof. Ours was the least waterproof because its not really our fault: All other groups had some form of plants with large leaves near them, ours had small and narrow leaves. So during the inspection:

**Kumaran pours a little water here**

Shide: "Oh Crap."

**Kumaran pours a little water there**

Shide: "Oh Crap."

**Kumaran pours a little water at yet another spot**

Shide: "Ohhh Crap."

Quite failure arh. But not really our fault anyway. Shide, you should have just endured the water for the sake of our pride xD

Other shelters were ok I think, most comfy-looking was Chuyong's shelter.

Then we cleared up and went home =)

Rockclimbing

Well, rockclimbing. A deeply interesting activity, one would think. And yes, yes it was, but not for the normal reasons.

The day started off brilliantly with us meeting at Yishun MRT. Jeremy led us to the SAFRA Club but decided upon leaving the MRT that we were walking too slow and made me and haoqin follow him at a punishing pace. 5 minutes later he tried to cross the road, decided not to, then backed up to cross the road again, so the batch managed to catch up. Nub.

Wayne takes damn long to eat a bun.

Eventually we reached the SAFRA Club and were all bowled over by the 25 metre rockwall. That's really really high. Kumaran eventually appearedand told us we were doing the 15 metre wall and taught us about harness-wearing and indemnity forms and blahdeblahdeblah. You know, uninteresting things like that. Let's go to the interesting part.

Since the J1s were there too they were going to be the belayers. Well, I know you aren't interested in how Kelvin Koa screamed so loudly when he was at the fourth panel, or how Dehong refused to come down from the top of the rockwall 'cos he was scared, or how Kumaran owned everyone, or how I didn't manage to get to the top of the easiest wall, right? Nobody likes things like that.

Yanwei called Kumaran "Mr. Kumaran", so Kumaran asked "What's my name?" Yanwei said "Kumaran". So Kumaran said "ok, good" then Yanwei called him Mr Kumaran again. Damn dots.

Also, GC and Ventures had races to the top of the rockwalls. Chuyong owned everyone, Nubby Neo lost to Wee Kien. Also Ram lost to Kelvin, then said Kelvin had asked him to wait for him. Oh, sure thing, mate.

At the final horseshoe, Kumaran told us to go for batch dinner. Jeremy said "Maybe", then when Kumaran left he said no.

Jeremy you uncaring slut. Not going for batch dinner. Not like I went, but the point is Jeremy's a slut.

Prince of Tennis Eps 11/12

Practice makes perfect, and like any other sport, tennis was no different. This Tuesday, the ventures headed down to my house there the tennis court. There were only a few of us, as SOME of us didn't want to go. Anyway, the fewer the better. Only Ram and I were in the beginner group. The rest had progressed on. Anyway, since there were too few people there, the coach asked us to challenge some old RJC students. Having seen them play from the other side of the court, I felt it wouldn't be THAT hard. Anyway, half an hour later, I was proved right. It wasn't that hard, and was a close fight. We lost 6-1. It was not my fault. Ram was trying to do his triple counters. I suggest he try aim the racket at the ball first.

After that, I went back to learn some moves from our coach, some slice thingy. No difference also, I didn't learn anything. After that the coach went off to slack off and drink coffee. Shi De, Kelvin, Wee Kien and I played doubles. Kelvin quite good. Fourth best of the game. Shi De also challenge me to singles game. Won 2-1. Wasn't really trying, but had to give impression to him that he was improving. :) . Just joking. Also had a doubles game teamed with ivan against shi de and kelvin. As kelvin would be proud to announce to every one who would listen, the game lasted all the way until 6-6, and tie-breaker they were leading 5-1. (Did I say there were 15 people late? Oh yea I think I just did).
2) I am in banner / gateway committee!
4) There were only 3 people in my committee, but luckily we managed to pull Jojo over to come own us with his talents. (:

Basically, we had to finalise the colour scheme, plan out the amount of colours we need, outline the banners and most importantly buy the paint. The planning took quite a bit because it seems that everyone was really really unresponsive.

Jeremy: So we use metallic for the sword?
Others: Yes
Jeremy: We use black for the handle?
Others: *nods*
Jeremy: We use bronze for the shoulderpads, I think it looks nice.
Others: *nods*
Jeremy: Wait I think use yellow bah so it contrasts the shield.
Others: Okay.
Jeremy: So what do you all think?
Others: Yes.

This went on for 30 minutes before I gave up and left them to do it themselves.
Jojo brought along his laptop so we could really see the colour schemes for ourselves. I think the finalised version looks brillant and I am sure it will look good after it is done. =P

So Sherman went to buy the paint after the amount of finalised and we got to work on the backdrop designs.
SPOILER: it looks really nice.

The real thing? You will see it soon, on the day itself. XD

So that's that for Annual Camp preparatory session 2.
Sweet, short, sucky. (refering to the post itself I mean)

Term 2 Week 1 tennis

Yeah, I know. Pretty late isn't it.

Anyway, as always the tennis lesson began as per normal. Apparently the Prince of Tennis anime had just ended with some guy doing some sort of Samurai shot to win the championship, cutting the ball in half.

Uh huh.

Is that even legal?

Well, much of the batch do watch it, so I'm not going to say how retarded it is here on the Venture Blog.

Anyway, the n00b class learnt all about volleying and hitting the ball before the bounce. I can safely say that that's the one thing Kelvin can own me at for tennis, because I sucked at that. Like, totally.

The real fun was during King of the Court. I paired up with Kelvin for the Golden Pair outfit, and soon enough (considering Kelvin's K-factor, 5-blue-note racket)we found ourselves on the King side. We were playing Chee Yeow and Yandao (you know who you are) and Chee Yeow decided to volley at the net. So I went up too, volleyed a bit and shot right to the side of the court for pure win.

Yeah, I'm never gonna let you forget it.

Later on Chee Yeow abandoned our game to play with Ram, so I pangsehed Kelvin to go with Yandao. Really funny. Then Kelvin started playing with Chester. We only played once, where he shot the serve into the net. However, even as I type this, I can feel within my arms the pain that you have been experiencing, especially when today's weather is so screwed. Hope you pitched your tents properly.

However, even though SUTC is seriously tough and difficult, you would probably remember it for the rest of your lives (whether it is a blessing or a curse would be up to you to decide). I hope that all of you would keep an open mind, and be willing to grow as a Scout and as a person over the camp.

For now, I'll post some interesting insights that us Ventures have gained about this year's SUTC:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ng Jun Jie's comments on trainees

chee yeow even God gets to rest on Sunday says:
how slow?
<jj>Scout Unit Training Camp Day 1! says:</jj>
as slow as slowpoke
chee yeow even God gets to rest on Sunday says:
haha
chee yeow even God gets to rest on Sunday says:
and how slow is that?
<jj> Scout Unit Training Camp Day 1! says:</jj>
as slow as another slowpoke

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Some rather interesting MSN nicks/personal messages of other 01 members:

FS Ng- "It is raining cats and dogs...good luck scout trainees! muahahaha!"
VTL Zhi- [zhi] Cheebohs my best friends
Tan Hao Qin- one word. ouch- poor SU
Chan Yanwei- "yanwei wishes the SUTC trainees luck in this.....fine weather. note: they already owe 1.2k"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

If for some reason you are reading this in camp, then all I can say is good luck! HI! So today we had tennis, our 6th session. Everyone clap because it’s Wayne’s first day. And he’s good. Real good. Okay maybe not that good but he hit the ball over the net the first day (which I don’t think I did) so it’s better than me anyway. I came kind of late because I lost track of time in the library (oops) but it was okay lah, they were practicing backhand and I joined in. I thought I was getting better, and I am getting the hand of it, but I forgot what exactly to do, lol.

We did some practicing with the coach, and he started singing old songs -_-“ which we all didn’t know, haha. Then we played King of the Court, our favourite game. I paired up with Chester this time, since Nathan was there that day L. I’m not saying you’re bad Chester, it’s just that me and Nathan are like the Golden Pair (like another pair we know *clears throat*). Woah, Ram picked up a few skills, he was soloing and managed to go quite a few rounds as king. Playing better than usual lah. Okay that officially recaps the session. Of course I wouldn’t know what the other side was doing, they’re too pro. XP haha.

In the light of the vacuum of posts in the past week (which is natural, since last week was seriously killer), I shall make use of this time when I am sick and happily at home to type a short, brief and hopefully entertaining entry on 'What Was On This Week'.

Monday was a Jobweek Special, where the Ventures had the rather arduous task of explaining the routine of Jobweek to our dear, hapless Sec Ones (who are also rather conveniently clueless about the upcoming SUTC. Once again our dear STLs are plagued with sore throats from excessive whistle blowing. Oh, the injustice).

So, barring the fact that making the same speech 6 times over to Sec Ones (there are two types: those who look like their listening but they're not, and those who don't even bother pretending) is not on my top ten lists of fun stuff, we realised that the SU looked rather bored, and being the warm, caring seniors that we are, we decided to spice things up a little.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the one-handed pushups that the cheebohs were shamelessly exhibiting (we simply subtly requested the free show). Hioky and Kenneth are able to do in excess on 25 one-handed pushups, so I suppose it is alright for the GC to abuse them at their whim and fancy for the sole reason that they are indestructible. I mean like, human rights don't apply to Supermen.

That actually sums up most of the Jobweek Special. Job Week, is afterall, something that you learn not through words, but through personal experience.

Tuesday was tennis, where being the SM person that I am, I unadvisedly dragged my tired and slightly feverish body down for a gruelling 3 hours of tennis. I can't say that it was a bad decision (because tennis is afterall good fun), but I ran out of gas quickly, and by the 2-hour mark was suffering from backaches and dizziness. Ouch.

And Ram, seeing that I was sick, decided to be kind and let me win him 6-3 in a match. Altogether now! "Awwwwwww..."

I hope that that was easier to digest then other posts. After all, I wouldn't want all these info compete with Trigo for space in our already limited cranial capacity. Although it sucks to be wearing uniform because its less comfortable than school uniform, but hey, I don't have to bring along my school uniform along with all my camp stuff, and that would occupy less space in my bag =) I spilled a lot of limewater (Calcium Hydroxide) onto my pants because I was stupid in the chem lab. Luckily it didn't stain my pants or whatsoever.

Then we started off our camp with backwoods. We moved all of our firewood, food, bags of tinder, sand, blah blah to Braddell forest, with some help from Kumaran and his car. We started off our backwoods by laying out some of our firewood and positioning our tinder/kinder so it can start a fire efficiently. Then, Kumaran gave us a brief run through of the weaknesses of each kind of fire: TP, cross ditch, trench, platform. Then, he proceeded on to demonstrate how to fillet a fish. The fish was pretty big, and Kumaran managed to get 2 huge chunks of meat out of the fish. After that, we proceeded on to the killing of the frogs which Kumaran bought, the big hoo-haa which was the highlight of backwoods, if not the entire camp for us (the investiture is more meaningful than frog-killing, but its not as exciting). Yanzhi showed us how to kill a frog; he took the struggling frog, concussed it on the brick, and then repeated that a few times, and then used a small razor to make a small incision on the frog's back, and then skinned it using his bare hands (no more use of razor). Then, he (forcefully) removed the frog's legs and arms by twisting it off, and disposed of the rest of the body. In a real survival situation, the guts your prey can be used to bait other animals.

Then, we all took turns to kill frogs. For my frog, I didn't have such a firm grip on it (its wet and slightly slimy), and so it slipped out of my grip after it got concussed the first time. Luckily it didn't react or what when I placed it in my grip again, which (I hope) means that it was dead or unconscious. Then I did a couple of more blows to it where its tongue came out and some cavity in its head burst, splashing my hands with blood. Then I bought it to the garbage bags to do the skinning and gutting. I made an incision on the back, and ripped the skin apart and yanked off the skin from its legs and body. While ripping, the frog's anal muscles went loose and all its faeces went onto my hand T.T It was pretty grueling as the skin is rather tightly adhered to the body, especially at the knee/finger joints. I managed to skin the frog without bursting the cavity at the torso which contained all the guts, which was a good thing. Then, I managed to twist off all the limbs with some difficulty, and then I burst the cavity to take a look at its guts. The liver was rather healthy looking, but the gall bladder was too deep inside so I didn't bother to take it out, as there was another guy waiting to use my place.

After that, I went back to the fires, where I tried to get the fire going, but my efforts were in vain. Then Royce came to help around, and finally everyone got their fires going. We took a long time to cook, because we had to prepare our containers first. And to prepare containers (those made from the skin of fruits, such as orange, pineapple, watermelon, etc) we had to eat up all the flesh in it. Meanwhile, Cheeyeow took out his bread dough. It was overflowing out of its box. Today morning, the bread dough was only filling up 4/5 of the box. So much for the expansion of the dough! We were like, "If there's not enough dough for everyone, we can just wait a couple of hours and let it growww". We used a parang to de-bark a long, random stick we found on the ground, and then wrapped the dough around it. The make-shift bread was more than satisfactory. Maybe the fact that Cheeyeow's family owns Tong Garden, and so he has that culinary blood flowing in his veins. Then, we proceeded on to cook our rice (failure) and also our veg (extremely raw even after spending one hour on the flames). The fish meat was OK, but the skin tasted a bit fishy, and we forgot to bring our condiments such as salt etc, so it was tasteless. The first batch of froglegs came out from the skewers, and everyone was dying to have a taste. Some people got jacked as some of the legs were still half raw. I myself ate a bit of 3/4 raw frog leg (just the calf) and it tasted O.K.

At around 7+, we tried to finish all our food, and packed everything up, before it got too dark. We had a lot of equipment and stuff lying around, and its already dark in a forest, if it gets late, we will surely not be able to find our equipment. We returned to RI, to realise that the gate was locked. Luckily, there was a little depression at the bottom of the gate, so we managed to crawl through. My elbow got hit by a fire extinguisher while crawling through....ouch.

We returned our stuff, and then proceeded to set up our bashas. We took a grand slam total of 30+ minutes to set up our basha. Back in GTC'06 we were taking like 8 minutes plus, and now we are taking 1/2 an hour, heheh. We owed a decent number for that feat. But that 30 minutes+ was rather justified; we were really hungry because we ate too little for backwoods, we were really tired already, and the ground was really rocky and hard. This was already bad enough, and we only had 2 pebbles to circulate around to hammer the pegs into the ground, if they can be hammered in at all. Then, we moved our bags into the bashas, and realised that some of the bags we moved in were the bags of JC1s, and we had to sort out our bags again.

Then, we went on to night games, where it was a pretty decent success, thanks to Cheeyeow's comprehensive planning beforehand. My station was pretty lame, (counting sheeps). We only had 3-4 patrols (out of 6) visiting us, as we were in a rather "inactive" place, somewhere in the admin block. I gave a accuracy deviance as counting sheeps on the pixelated pictures was a seriously screwed task. Then, after the de-brief and whatnots, we went for supper. And when the crackers came around, everyone went nuts because we were all starved and famished. Junjie AND HALIIM [edited =)] were nice enough to run all the way to the 7-11 at J8 to get us some bread because all of us barely ate anything for backwoods. After our supper, we went to sleep, lights out at 12.15am. I woke up at 2.30am for sentry until 3.30am. During the sentry with Weekien and Ram, they went to bathe, leaving me to do my sentry alone (they were the only people who bathed in last year's Scout Unit Training Camp too). I went to leech off some companionship from the sentries from the Scout Unit and ate a bit of the chips they had. Then I helped Weekien the wimp to sew on his name tag, as that wimp doesn't know how to sew. I already spent my recess sewing on his Venture flashes, bloody bugger. Then, after more talking kok, it was 3.30am, and I went back to my basha to sleep, only to find Jeremy sleeping there. Apparently he just goes into other people's bashas and sleep. Actually there wasn't even enough space around in the bashas to begin with, so he had to leech off his space from people who were doing sentry. So not really his fault =P

Woke up at 6.30am with my arms in my sleeves, the strong winds in the night were just too cold.....brrr... Changed into scout uniform to prepare for flag raising, then went for a slightly hardcore PT. We did a lot of stuff, running around, some telephone game which was simply running something like shuttle run over various distances, and also sets. Then, we went for breakfast, which was pretty good. It was the standard scouts breakfast: Cheap (but good) bread, cheap (but good) fruit jam, cheap and canned (but good) kaya, and the cheap (but not as good as milo) ovaltine. Scouts ovaltine is a cunning thing. Last year I was cooking ovaltine, and I was instructed: "Add JUST ENOUGH ovaltine to give the ovaltine the brown colour, then spam sugar to give it the taste". Well, the product is a nice partially-pseudo-ovaltine which everyone's happy about (since it tasted nice anyway). Don't know about whether this year's ovaltine was honest or not. But dishonest ovaltine tastes good too(possibly better), so who cares? Then me and Nathan got pumped 50 by Sarun for forgetting to clean the equipment which we used last night...didn't remember to clean it during our sentry, but I don't feel THAT guilty over it, since no one can wake up at 2.30am and remember to clean equipment lol.

Then we went for footdrill, where it was simply hilarious. Yanzhi was laughing throughout the thing because he tried to make us do stupid and funny stuff with footdrill. For example, there is this command to make the contingent/squad move a few steps to the right/left/front/backwards. Then, it is usually used like for numbers less than 5. Then Yanzhi wanted us to move across the field in front of S.Raja block using that command, but he didn't know a big number in malay (footdrill commands were given in malay). So he had to consult Haliim, and he pronounced the command wrongly even after Haliim repeated the command a lot of times for him. Finally he got it right, and we moved across the field looking like crabs, as we had to move sideways (everyone was laughing). We also took 5 minutes water break every 10 minutes because footdrill was boring and everyone knew the commands. During the footdrill Yanzhi also positioned us for damn guailan reasons.
Like:

Yanzhi: "Which side scenery you like better, front or back"
Ventures: "Back la"
Yanzhi: "Ok. Keblakan-Pusing!" (turn 180 degrees)

Another one:
(we were standing at the edge of the void deck of Raja block, and Yanzhi was out in the open)

Yanzhi: "Wah you all move forward so much, now I am in the sun...zzz....ok....enam lanka keblacan krah!" (move backwards 6 steps)
*VU moves back 6 steps*
Yanzhi: "Good, now I'm in the shade"

We also performed some footdrill for the sec1s, their footdrill is far from perfect, long way to go man!! After footdrill was free and easy, I ate some canned tuna which I found in my bag. Last year, I couldn't find THIS particular can of tuna, and I spent an entire afternoon of my GTC hike famished and starved. Now its time to eat it up. I spent my time sewing on Cheeyeow's Venture Flashes. His uniform is rather old, and is very soft, and my thread went through the entire sleeve (not 1 side of the sleeve) without knowing it, as I totally couldn't feel the needle going through the fabric. Then I had to keep on re-doing the thing. Then we went for lunch, which was pretty tasty =) (packet lunch) Then after lunch we went to undo our bashas, and also me and nathan went to facilitate the Patrol Item Inspection for the Scout unit. There are a hell lot of ants in the Scout Unit cooking equipment, champion. And there was also a lot of beehoon bits in some pot. Well well. At least they have cooking equipment =D

Then, we put our bags into a classroom, and went for investiture rehearsal. It was pretty boring, as it was rehearsal. Nothing much to say, just that we weren't told to salute after we take a step back after being invested. The postholder's investiture was also pretty kok for the VEXCO, as we didn't practise marching out together. Then, we went for dinner, and changed into our scout uniforms. Zhixuan's flashes were coming out since he didn't use double thread to do his sewing, and I had to sew his flashes on.

Finally came the actual investiture itself, with the torches and stuff (condemned poles with an end wrapped in cloth, then soaked in turpentine). Venture Unit investiture was held seperately in a close and small horseshoe, and I am glad that everyone turned up. It was a rather significant and meaningful event, as we were officially moving on to Venturing. During my investiture, I did a keblakan-pusing, but there was this darned rock in the middle of nowhere and my leg hit it, causing me to nearly trip. Bleargh. After the venture investiture, we took a picture (Kumaran is surprisingly proficient at helping others wear berets, everyone were amazed at how nice the berets looked). We took a group photo with a couple of people still in the toilet admiring their berets =.=, and then we went to join the main horseshoe with the Advisory Council, Group Council, Scout Unit, and the teachers and alumni. The investiture of the Venture Exco went pretty well, and we didn't screw up our marching haha.

After the horseshoe, we had a last seperate horseshoe with Kumaran, where he told us a meaningful tale, and encouraged us to question, as well as challenge traditions, embrace change, and wished us luck in our Venturing year. We were finally Bersurai-ed after that, signifying the end to this meaningful and exciting camp.

Tennis Lesson on Tuesday

Well, since F2 asked for it...

Time for a chuyong-quality blogpost.

The school day ended fairly well, with an extremely interesting and enlightening *cough* talk on the experiences that people had in OIP. After that some people went to buy Scout things, but me being the great Scout that I am had already bought my things in a "free period" on that day, so I didn't go.

Was greeted with suspicion by Yan Wei when he saw me coming back to school after lunch. Eh, whatever happened to "A Scout is to be trusted"?

Hao Qin's wrist was hurting, so I offered to make it hurt less by sitting on it. Sadly he declined.

Played tennis for a while. At first me and Chee Yeow played Kelvin, with obvious results. Next me and Kelvin played Chee Yeow and Zhi Xuan. Close match because of Kelvin's super-awesome snake shots.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_xSkmx5Rk0Vk/R7xEB_29TMI/AAAAAAAAAB4/fIlHJwwJOSI/s320/snake-bites-face.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169081273426988226" />

Yup, they were THAT strong.

Eventually we met the others at the canteen and went for tennis lessons. Kelvin and me became the Golden Pair, a very nice nickname. But as Jeremy said, gold is half water. Guess which half is the suckier one.

A bunch of other people came and played against the pros of our batch. Apparently Trachsel got owned by F2's brother. Chee Yeow was also annoyed by F2's apparent off-formness that day. I say that Chee Yeow's only an Hononary Member, and no one cares about Hononary Members.

At the end of the lesson we played King of the Court. The Golden Pair got owned, so we moved to another court and still got owned by Zaki and Nathan, of all people.

The coach, after seeing us play, demoted both of us to the noob class.

Yeah, so next week the Goldne Pair's playing against F3 and Zaki the Dead Terrorist.

Oh, and let's not forget God.

Operation F-Force

"<s style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Blood</s> Backwoods is an evil thing. Second by second, the shadow of death draws closer, casting a lasting gloom over our heroes. However, while mere mortals might not have been able to withstand the terrible might of the darkness (or rather, the green-ness), we 01 Scouts are made of much sterner stuff, and it is with a grim determination that we set ourselves to this epic journey that would be the stuff of legends for <s style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">centuries</s> days to come. Tonight, we dine in <s style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Hell</s> Long John Silver!

Apparently, our death-defying feats on Saturday had not been able to win this war, and so we once again steeled our mind and sharpened our senses and we prepare to launch another offensive against the evil green-ness. Armed to the teeth with weapons and equipment, we marched through the gates of the enemy into the waiting throngs of Green Stuff that immediately attacked our bodies; branches jabbed into our limbs with a vengeance, low-lying roots were set to trip us as we walked, and they even sent out an aerial offensive against our troops. However, as they were soon to learn, it would take more than just mosquito bites to drive us off.

Our platoon would be in charge of gathering the leaves of the Green-ness, and crush them without mercy or compassion, till they were nothing more than dust in our hands (or rather our plastic bags)/ Their defenses proved futile as we desecrated their population of leaves till all that remained in our wake was the mournful cries of the survivors (though not quite as bad as Ram's singing). Meanwhile, Ivan was bravely kicking the ground and uttering loud war-cries, presumably in an attempt to intimidate the enemy into submission. Such courage must surely be recognized.

While we were in the process of massacreing their leaves, it seemed that the denizens of the forest has decided to unleash their ultimate attack upon our brave heroes. It came without warning, a sudden bombshell launched from high up in the sky, and landing with a slight 'plop' on our hero's head. Poor Chee Yeow had to use a big leaf (take that, evil Green-ness) to wipe the remains of the bio-bomb off his unfortunate scalp.

Finally, after our bloodlust had subsided and the scattered remains of the leaves were safely in our plastic bags, we emerged triumphant from behind enemy lines, carrying with us the spoils of war. Upon our return to base camp, we discovered our comrades already carving the dead figures of our enemies into useful equipment which would prepare us for the ordeals that lay ahead. However, there were some which were apparently shocked from all the gore and violence of our plant-vs-human, all-out, no holds barred battle, and all they could do was to watch at the proceedings with a blank expressions on their faces.

The rest of the afternoon we then spent hacking at fallen logs with all the rage and strength we could muster, and then splitting their parts into even smaller pieces before dumping them unceremoniously aside and proceeding on to the the same to their wooden counterparts, all the while with maniacal glee pasted all over our faces.

Finally, day began to give in to the night, and it was time for us to conclude our mission and we returned home, tired but triumphant. However, deep in our hearts, we all knew one thing: the battle might have been won, but the war is far from over.

Stay tuned for more news.
F-Force Honorary Member Ong Chee Yeow reporting from the front lines.

Operation: Speical Ops...

We met up today to make tinder n buy stuff, and for certain special ops ppl to go about performing their special ops.

Special Ops - we made it back alive

no man was left behind. and though blood was spilt, every man came back alive n well; able to stand on is two feet. the day started off bright an sunny. the three chosen ones(who will be known as tom dick n harry, to protect their true identities), made their way to the secret location code named- court of death, for their pre ops briefing.

never was the atmosphere so tensed up before. and as the sun peaked over the horizon and the hdb blocks the tension just grew tenser. Tenser and tenser it became... the three chosen ones thn had their final briefing by J.T. before moving out into the wilderness. they armed themselves with the most technically advanced gadgets avialable.

before they knew it, the time had come for the team to move out... the first obstacle was the gate... it was...it was...LOCKED! luckily, the ops team were physically fit n not horizontally challenged. also know as the F-Club these team slid under the enormous iron gates of justice, which seperated the good from the bad. they proceeded into the unknown and went in search of their targets - codename 'the tall ones' -

soon enough, 'the tall ones' was in their sights, and what joy when they realised that they had both been uprooted. thier underground buisness had come to an end, and they had been made to face the judgement already. within moments the preparation of the extraction of the limbs were in session. the look outs(cowards) left ground zero to help look out while leaving the one and only agent 3 A.K.A FB1 in charge of the extraction. luckily FB1 was skilled in such areas and the job was over with as soon as it started.

the trek back to base almost caused a fatality though thnx to a certain F2 who had walked onto the well worn transporation route with 'the tall one'. he had almost knocked a rider off his bike. it isn't as easy it it might seem to keep cool under such great pressure. a quick repsonse from F2 proved to be in the nick of time, and all fatalities were avoided.

soon the team was under cover again, the iron gates of justice were just ahead, but that was not where they were heading they had a last minute change in course and replotted their route to the mountainous forest of no return. that was when 'the tall one' decided to attack. he had suddenly awoken from his presumed death n stabbed FB1 in his hand. blood poured out of the wound, but FB1 wasn't shaken by it. he just dug in and pulled out the 2cm splinter. MANLY!

the three men made it back alive n were regarded as heroes... byt he population. without them he 22nd of feb would have been their last...

so that was the story behind Operation: special ops... i would go further into the special ops details but then i would have to neutralise you after that, n i believe that you wouldn't want that ;-) so i guess tt's all u just might ever know...

i hope u enojyed that... for more cool stories, read the Nathan-Man Series, an auto-biography by the Man himself.

Overnight Briefing

Oh well. I am supposed to blog about this activity which doesn't seem like a word feeder like Annual Camp and what nots. But anyway that Wednesday just have to start with Muster Parade. ='(
Apparently Muster Parade was supposed to be on CNY eve, but I guess since it had to be cancelled, it has been pushed forward to this week. That means, the next one should be week 9 and that's it (i hope, pray, 拜, chant, etc).
As always, the commands for the Muster Parade never fail to daunt me. With all the tongue twisting and vocal draining pronunciations, what else can keep you on your toes besides a nice list of commands that stretches 3 lines across my paper per command? =P

Horseshoe was blown at the Raffles Square and sadly 6 Ventures had to be late. ='(
It was a sad thing that was sadder when some SU members forgot their uniforms...
And the saddest part was that the J1s didn't have to wear their uniforms.

However sad it was, Muster Parade still has to go on because Faizal isn't sad is he? So we lined up as usual at the super-duper-really-seriously squeezed and crammed lane outside the library. We sized up as usual and everything seemed fine. (it is quite pointless to get excited with words for this part. It's like wanting me to write about Muster Parade matrix style... -.-||)

So the procession started. A few people were playing basketball and I think I saw my form teacher there as well! I heard he is a really good basketball player, not sure if he was from the school team though.

So the procession ended. The next activity was PT.
Venture PT has always been fun and exciting. Now that Yan Zhi had to fracture his toe (ouch! if you fractured your toes I could have said ouches but oh well, you only managed to fracture one! =p), we got Haliim and Jun Jie as our PT aliens.
We ran to RJC, did crunches on a really wierd area (those not designated for people to do exercises) and continued running on the field. Then Haliim got a brilliant idea and we all were the people who were experimenting his brilliant idea! (:
It was GL sprinting which was... GL. Basically we were sprinting with knees to our chests, feet to our butts and what nots (or rather that was all).
PT then continued with 1 more round around the field and finally to the pull-up bars where we tried to scam them with the Hiok Chiou + Chin Yang trade we had earlier. Apparently they weren't for the challenge of "the number of pullups both j1s can do times 2 and divided among the whole venture batch that is present".
In the end we did 8 (which mind you was less than the trade we got haha).

So after PT was the overnight lecture itself. There really isn't much to say about that besides the fact that we saw Yan Zhi say "shit!" then zoomed off across the LT and scrambled his way out of the LT. Till today the mystery has yet been solved.

Since we weren't really involved in learning how to wear the scout uniform, we discussed about some Venture related stuff which includes something the SU cannot know as well as backwoods. I guess we all are looking forward to the backwoods preparation session we have on Saturday (especially those in the special backwoods section)!

For those who have no clue (i assume you are younger), wait till you become Ventures to understand what we just said.
For those who have a clue, shhhhhh because you may be called up for an investigation by the police. I mean you have a clue right...

Tuesday Tennis

Hey Hey to all you peeps reading this. Today was like the 4th, or 5th session of tennis. I think the batch has been improving a lot, since we had our first lesson.

Well erm.. maybe Jonathan hasn’t got much more to improve. Oh and by the way next time perhaps we could try out less IMBA teamings when playing King??!! Today Jonathan and Ram were like perma staying at the other side of the court… and one more thing, Jonathan if you’re reading this, hope you would stop playing BeyBlade when the rest of us are doing plain tennis. Really, the way you spin it… ah well… I suppose with more practice I’ll soon be able to spin it like Roger. Or Nadal. Or Maria. Or maybe even Jonathan. Or Ram then. Maybe.

I find that being allowed to play with each other improves me more than doing drills. Well of course, we gotta have some drills before we’re allowed to go duel against each other… but for now, I think I just need more practice.

I’m actually rather disappointed at the way I’ve been playing. That’s because I rather expected to be OK at it after a while. But its been a while, and yet I’m still missing so many balls… by the way, sorry if I’m focusing too much on myself. (:

To all those who play Badminton and/or Table Tennis, I suppose you also realize that its rather different from tennis… the main thing is that both Table Tennis and Badminton use lots and lots of wrist actions, and to use the wrist in tennis… hmm… well for now, it sometimes works, but I suppose it’s because we’re still rather NOOBY, so as long as the ball gets over the net, its fine. Haha. With badminton and ping pong, most of the time you just need to flick your arms/wrist a bit and the ball would fly back. But for tennis still gotta remember to bring the arm backwards. Its sometimes rather troublesome, so in the end we forget to move it backwards and just sort of deflect the ball back so it flies up high in the air, leaving it open for smashes by the other side. But no worries for that now, because most of the time anybody attempts smashes, they just underestimate and hit too low, so it goes into the net. So they basically self-JAG.

I suppose the standings (I mean, you never heard of sittings right?) for tennis pro-ness goes as follows:

Jonathan
Ram/De Hong
Chee Yeow
Chu Yong/Ivan

Well the rest (including me) I suppose are somewhere in the top ten also, but I’m not really sure of the rankings.. Haha.

One question I’ve been pondering over though, who do you think is the Lao Da between the two coaches? The older and more tan one, or the Younger GL hair one? Hmm… I think it’s the older one.

And Kevin seems to be some hot favorite for the younger coach. He whole day ‘koala’ here, ‘koala’ there.

I hope my badminton and table tennis skills don’t suffer as a result of trying to adapt to tennis playing style… who else in our batch plays badminton or table tennis??? Hope we get to play them some time… it’d be much fun.

Seriously.

And Yan Wei pangseh me and Kelvin walao! Never wait for us a while…

:D

DONE BY WEEKIEN. Yanwei is just helping me post cos I don’t have a blogger account.

And Yanwei here says: Yea right, wait for bus 20 minutes and then still wait for another 20 minutes thanks to you guys. I don’t have a life to waste, dude.

Survival Lecture II

Hi everyone, due to overwhelming response from Yanwei, i shall be updating this blog.

Anyway, today was our Survival Lecture Part II, which was a rather dry topic, and I was definitely not helped by Kelvin attempting to perfect the drawing of a girl-looking creature beside me.

Lesson proceeded on like the previous week. I think we covered on the theory of how to catch animals, and what kind of animals to look out for, such as their droppings, shelter and movement. Won't go into detail much, but the heat was really getting to me by that time and i was a little tired and drowsy, and when Yan Zhi mentioned that we should "leave the skin of the animal with 2 fingers and slice upwards, remove the offals (something like that) and eat asap". Well, for a moment, i thought "asap" was a kind of food, and kelvin started laughing at me.

I really don't see what's so funny.

Anyway, after that lecture, we were reminded of our groups for backwood, which consisted of me, harish, ram, wayne and chu yong. No problem then, Ram shall prove worthy of his title of the cobra-slayer. We were also reminded to get our logistics by next Wed or else..

That's that, and after that we were dismissed and I went play ball with sec 3s, and ended up nearly ending Hiok Yang's playing career when i tripped him, and also let in about 5 goals. Think i'm getting a little rusty. That's it for today's post. BB!!

P.S. Any tennis players who wants to see us in action, you can navigate here: Latitude 1.359327 Longitude 103.860473

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_BAEBaFsKzac/R6xvzR2cgRI/AAAAAAAAAJE/g4p1nh50S8g/s320/kort_06.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164625799442891026" />
We can navigate AND play tennis.

We met at the canteen at 3 something, and then took a bus to the Burghley Centre, which is opposite Dehong's house. In the bus, there was this funny incident that happened. Dehong was drinking his water, and he paused to talk to Shide, who was beside him. During that time, he leaned the bottles, uncapped, over the seat in front, unknowingly emptying the contents over the rgs girl who was sitting in front.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_BAEBaFsKzac/R6x2VR2cgTI/AAAAAAAAAJU/GGJJnMyl9-4/s320/samaramorganjh8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164632980628209970" />
Bad hair day.

We reached the court on time this time, though the coach was late =P We warmed up by playing random matches before the coach comes, and then we split into our classes to take lessons. Since they were just plain, boring lessons, I shall not go into the lame, unnecessary details (since this is not a chuyong-quality blogpost)

Moving on.. at the end of the lessons, we then had our 01 King of Tennis Doubles Championships, Venture Division. For this, we had teams of doubles, who will play against each other. There will be King team, and a team who defeats them will gain the title, and so on. The teaming are as such (not in order):

Kelvin - Shide
Cheeyeow - Yudong
Chuyong - Zhixuan
Ram - Weekien
Jeremy - Samuel
Dehong - Nathan
Trachsel - Ivan
Yanwei - Harish

The game started off with a bang, where the Ram-Weekien pair quickly gain the King position, and remained there for more than 2 cycles, because of Weekien's great forearm strength and Ram's special technique, the powerful King Cobra Shot.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_BAEBaFsKzac/R6x-Sx2cgUI/AAAAAAAAAJc/knAM0jR6B4Q/s320/18-19.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164641733771559234" />
Improved version of the Snake Shot

However, after a intense, hard fought battle, the Kelvin-Shide pair managed to break their streak, using their strong, powerful strokes, of course, due to them being two of the strongest people in the batch. They continue their streak for another 2 cycles.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_BAEBaFsKzac/R6yB3h2cgVI/AAAAAAAAAJk/NRjl2yhcexM/s320/16-17.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164645663666635090" />
Representative of Shide's powerful strokes

The next team which took over was the Chuyong-Zhixuan team. This vice-captain combination, with <s>a sudden change in wind direction</s> great teamwork and sheer determination, managed to break Kelvin-Shide's Beyond-Godlike streak.

After that, there were a few more matches played, where the Kings got switched around a few times, it was time for the final match of the day. Cheeyeow and Yudong, who hasn't grasped the position once yet, was deperate for victory =P At this point of time, Cheeyeow suddenly achieved his state of awakening, becoming more of a monster than he already is, gaining his first taste of the King's position.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_BAEBaFsKzac/R6yHTB2cgWI/AAAAAAAAAJs/QVew-Y8hqyQ/s320/16.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164651633671176546" />
OMJ(eremy)

And then... the match ended, making Cheeyeow and Yudong the doubles champion of 01. The tennis activity then came to close, with our Golden Pair getting ready for their bright future career in tennis ahead.

Survival Lecture 1

I am glad to announce that 20 ventures (correct me if I'm wrong) would have a good chance of surviving if you threw them off a plane into the Amazon jungles!

The ventures today went for a survival lecture regarding survival techniques. We went to some RJC classroom for our lecture, and there was a strong smell of.....RJC people. And I noticed that the dust bin was full of junk food.

We were taught how to survive like hardcore stoneage rockmen who were extremely savvy in finding food and water. Something like Flintstones on steriods. Although I guess its easier to call in the uber-l33t Housing Development Board, and they would have the place transformed into a HDB estate in a few months, or at least memorize the hotline for McDelivery, we still listened to the lecture like goody-two-shoes scouts.

Anyway, we were taught how a lot about acronyms regarding how to set up shelter, what to do and what not to do, what to do if you see a nice, juicy and tasty looking fruit which looks as succulent as Dehong etc.

Just for an example, if you did not know all the l33t h4xx skills we were taught today, you would probably end up like this guy.

But if you listened to the lecture carefully, and knew all the survival skills at the back of your hand, you will end up something like this.

I swear he built a gym in the jungle.

But thats IF we even survive the plane crash.

After the enriching and informative lecture, we went back to the den, where we saw the sec1s. They look very nice and tasty.

Harmonica Session + Informal Tennis Session

What?

01 Venture Unit Harmonica Session and Tennis Self-Practise (:

Who?

Zaki
Shanghai
Chu Yong
Yan Wei
Nicholas
Zhi Xuan
De Hong
Yu Dong
Jonathan
Hao Qin
Kelvin
Chester
Shi De
Joshua

(zx take note pl0x)

Where?

01 Raffles Scout Group Scout Den, and tennis court

When?

2nd February 2008

Why?

<strike>Nothing to do.</strike>NYAA Component, and harmonica is fun.

Anyone from the Venture Unit can add on the this post.

Jeremy's Birthday

Staff Training Day = No school!!! I woke up in the wee of the morning at approximately 8+am to read 2 smses.

From Harish :

Guys i cannot go ice skating today i not feeling well.

From Jonathan :

hey, sry but i wont be able to join you guys today, still sick...

I swear, this is da bomb and so basically after waking up and watching Team Supremo on Disney Channel, I decided to call up the whole venture unit on the outing today and remind them to wear jeans and gloves for the ice skating. SOooo, i called Ram and he said that he went to see a doctor and he was not feeling well. Between you and me, i think he got bitten by a king cobra. So, to cut things short, in summary, a lot of people couldn't go at the last minute due to unforeseen reason such as having to do Maths ( Relax, Shide, i won't say it is you. ).

So, it turned out that only 6,7 + people could make it for Seoul Garden. Anyway, i was deciding whether black jeans would look OK on me and i asked Yanwei on MSN and he replied:

Dude, there is a reason why we have a mirror.

So, after getting changed and bring along extra gloves and jeans in case people forgot, i left the house with my spanking cool new cool crumpler. I was like making my way to the bus-stop when i saw my neighbour who asked me : You don't have school today? I was like : Yeah. Then she went " You sure? Confirm ah?" I was like" Yeah." I felt like a schoolboy playing truant.

Did i mention that 30th Januray is Jeremy's Birthday? I mean, i thought like God was always there, didn't know he had a birthday. So, when i reached Woodlands, only Yanwei, Jeremy, Samuel and I were there and whilst waiting for Cheeyeow, Yanwei talked about his godly act of acting as a J1. Nothing between you and me Yanwei but the truth has to be told, it has to. So, during assembly on 29th Janurary which was supposed to be a CEC council Meeting, our dear Yanwei and his accomplices( who shall not be named) basically went to the den to do some "cleanup work". I am not sure about the details but it is like the prefects who were outside the hall saw them at the den and when they went to the den, the prefect saw one of Yanwei's accomplice eye through the eye-hole and they looked at each other. So, when they wanted to book them for ponning assembly, our dear Yanwei braved them and said that they were J1s and were merely at the den clearing up the pulleys, which he was holding on to for some random reason. It is not suprising that the prefects believed him as he always has an RJC badge on his pocket but the prefects are quite dumb as one of Yanwei's accomplices was wearing shorts.

(Yanwei, i hope you don't take it as a personal insult)

Moving on to our main story, so after Cheeyeow came, we made our way to Seoul Garden :) i was starving like mother and was so happy to be able to eat. SO, before we entered, JEremy was saying that they all pass me the money so we can all give at once and cheeyeow was like DOUBTING my integrity and so i gave him the honor of collecting the money. So, when we found our seats, i went to start taking the meat. As i took, I remembered what the guy at the RE talk said about beef and vegetables and i felt guilty for a second but after that i continued on taking the chicken and beef.

So, we started talking cock and started cooking our meat. Jeremy was complaining to me about me keep saying the word" I swear" and i was like what's wrong... Still, because he was the birthday boy, i had no choice but to give in to his request. Really pity those people who never join us in Seoul Garden as it is really worth the money when you are going there with your friends. By the way, Yanwei is dam knots, go there eat the fried dumplings and food and then eat a bit of barbecued meat by Cheeyeow and then sit dere and emo with his earpiece and his incessant flu. Anyway, Zhixuan arrived at about 12+ and joined us and he said he was playing caged soccer and Jeremy asked, what is that? Answer was playing soccer in a cage :)

Then, whilst eating, we were chatting about CCA choices when we go over to RJC and Zhixuan was promoting fencing and discussing who in the batch could make it to fencing. I don;t make to name names but basically at the end of the convo, apparently no one could make it to fencing. Then, he started saying he wanted Frisbee... Suddenly, there was a group of people who suddenly sang a Birthday song for their friend and we were so close in singing a birthday song for him which Zhixuan managed to dissuade us from ( lucky :) So,at the end, Cheeyeow and I made this cake which was brownies and ice-cream and that was Jeremy's birthday cake.

Let me tell you, there is a serious problem with Seoul Garden's security as WEekien managed to sneak inside without paying but of course, being a scout, he did not take anything for free. So when we left Seoul Garden and made our way to Jurong East to ice-skate, Yanwei received a call from Haoqin and apparently, Haoqin had sms JEremy to tell him to call him when we were leaving while he loiter in Causeway Point but our Dear birthday Boy simply forgot about it and so we left Haoqin Behind.

I just realised i am talking too much details so i shall jsut cut short and be on my way to mugging bio, COme on CCTS are in like 3 WEEKS times, so you shouldn't be reading this blogpost but figure out what is sinxcosx=tanxcosxsinxsinxcosx...

So, apparently a lot of people forgot to bring their gloves and i had brought a lot along so there was enough for everyone. Kelvin and Ivan joined us on the way there and soon, we were at Fuji Ice Palace, waiting to ice-skate. I estimated the total price for 3hs to be about 20+ but because it was a wednesday, there was a special promotion and we just had to pay 11.80 for everything. YAY!
- So sorry, the blog starts to get boring because i am so sleepy rite now . ZzzzzZzzzz
So, upon getting our ski blades and wearing our gloves, we braved ourselves by stepping on the ice rink and we were all like some cute little ducks, clinging on to the handrail for dear life and it was pretty funny except for Zhixuan who was like suaning us at the side as he knew how to skate. Don't really remember what happened as i was concentrating on trying to skate by myself but i remember that our dear Ivan kept falling and it is really dam funny when he fall and the second on the list is Cheeyeow who fell down a couple of times. Time really flies when you are skating and 1 hour past like within a second and soon they had to go and resurface the ice.

Jeremy, Weekien, Cheeyeow and Haoqin can really skate very well and i kept trying to keep up with them, i cannot say that i am not sastified with my performance but i have this strange feeling that i am doing it wrongly for i ended with a lot of blisters at my legs while de rest didn't. By the way, i fell down this once which was like very not fair lor because this guy who was in front of me suddenly stopped and to prevent from knocking into him, i tried to stop , lost my balance and before i knew it i was one the ground.

So, at about 430+, Cheeyeow and Zhixuan decided to go to Queensway to go and buy tennis racket while the rest of us decided to continue. Then, we decided to decide what we wanted to do, with options, Lanning, Arcade and Movies and we all went ahead with movies so, Jeremy KElvin and Samuel stayed back continuing to skate while de rest of us went to check the prices for the movies. Sadly, most of the movies were at 7+ and so we couldnt make it as it was too late and so we decided to settle for dinner and go home. Whilst waiting for Jeremy, we stoned at the Arcade and were looking at this guy playing Time Crisis 4 and he was dam mother pro as he never even lost a single life till stage 3 or 4.

So, all's well that ends well and Jeremy birthday, remember don't buy photo frames for him next year! To end this blog off with a High note, let me dedicate this song to Jeremy:

Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to JEremy!
Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

heeeeya I uploaded a photoslideshow of everyone from the Venture Unit of 2008.

Any complaints of your photo, or anyone who wants to use another photo please send it to me. We took 156 to a busstop near Dehong's house, but then it was raining. We decided to take a bus to another bus stop, then another bus from there. While we were waiting, I decided to squeeze Jeremy's tits for fun. Our wonderful CCAL started doing the same to me, and frankly it was far easier for Jeremy to get me than it was for me to get him, due to some size issues.

Well, we took a bus to the busstop, then we decided to walk instead of wait for the second bus, which was pretty dots since it would take longer, so we should have just walked from the first bus stop. I'm not saying anything about you at all, Dehong. Except that you're pretty smart.

We did get to the tennis centre in the end, where I found out several important things about the batch:

1) Wayne was suffering from some illness or other, so he couldn't come. Personally I'm expecting syphilis or something along those lines.

2) Haoqin is a dirty ponning bugger who didn't come for his NYAA tennis lessons. =)

3) I'm lousier than Kelvin. Yuck. I shall now copy Yanwei and put random Google pictures on the blogpost.

4) Speaking of Yanwei, he wants me to lend him my guitar. Ha, right.

5) I paired with Yanwei for a game, we got 10 points. Yanwei got 2 out of 10 but he is still better than me because he is a property mogul and could evict me from my house.

6) Jeremy said my tennis damn zai. =) =) =) =)

Seoul Garden tomorrow, then ice-skating = 2.5 hours of fun then 4 hours of pure shame and embarrassment. Yes, Seoul Garden rocks.

Hi guys!

On Monday, we had Scouts Skill training together with the SU. Now, why am I posting this only now? Well, it is because I'm a <s>lazy bugger</s> very, very busy person with alot of personal commitments. Anyway, we shall just have to delete Shi De's post discreetly so that we get the chronological order correct.

Anyway, I am sure that you guys are desperately craving for the scintillating details about knot tying and first aid, which is afterall a highly interesting activity. But this is a wenture'08 blog, and interesting as skills training might be, it loses all meaning without its star attraction.

Shi De gives his
<strike>very ugly</strike> Handsome Smile™

Oops, it seems like all our female blog visitors whom we all pray and believe exists (some people do believe in aliens and the Loch Ness monster after all) has just been scared away, but we will just have to make do. We accept no responsibilities for any deaths or injury caused directly or indirectly as a result of Shi De's megawatt hansem smile.

Anyway, back to the story: so we first had orienteering, where we basically covered some of the stuff that we did for our Gold standard like constellations and finding directions and stuff, which was taught by Zhao Wei Jie. Then, we had First Aid, where we did SRIT with Ng Jun Jie, and did the arbitrary CPR demo, and throw in a couple of broken limbs, burns and a delicious assortment of excruciatingly painful injuries and you get a recipe fit for a... Scout?

The last one was knots, where we were just supposed to recap our Gold knots. However, some of us who were <s>bomb lazy</s> already well-versed in the arts of knot tying decided to screw around, and I soon created my own spanking cool new cool knot, which I happily named a Donut Knot and went around showing others.

Example:

Me: Hey Haoqin! Look at my spanking cool new cool knot!
Haoqin: Is that your spanking cool new cool knot?
Me: Yeah! Its my spanking cool new cool knot?

...Ad infinitum.

However, Koala had other plans for my spanking cool new cool knot, and upon me showing it to him, he proudly demonstrated his advanced knowledge in biology by calling it something else, which made me throw my Donut Knot at him. See Kelvin, its a Donut Knot, you sick freak. The owner has the right to name it.

This was actually the highlight of my knots session =O

Speaking of knots, it seems that we all need to give some gratitude to our dear VQM:

----------------------------------
Mag Mell. =) says:
benhong/sarun took the bucket of ropes which i spent 2 1/2 hours on last friday coiling and stock taking

Mag Mell. =) says:
i stock take the ropes how many good how many bad, then sort them all out

Mag Mell. =) says:
then they take out lala

Mag Mell. =) says:
good job
----------------------------------

I shall copyright this font size and colour on the use of this blog. =)

Harmonica

Hi guys, i shall take a break off writing the VEXCO Meeting Minutes which currently consists of three k words.

Today we had our harmonica lesson for our NYAA (Silver)

The ventures present were:

Chee Yeow
Zaki
Yan Wei
Zhi Xuan
De Hong
Wee Kien
Hao Qin
Jeremy
Shi De

Apparently our dear Venture Chairman forgot to call the ventures and inform them about the harmonica lesson, as a result ninety percent of the batch did not bring our harmonica. Or ninety-nine if you don't count Shi De as one.

So we ended up having to share harmonica which is rather...

sick.

The session ended off with a test, which requires us to play the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and "Oh Susanna"

Yanwei now continues the epic story of (a portion of) the batch of 01-2005 in their harmoc lesson :

Meanwhile, we also played the Twinkle Twinkle with the slider which helps us play a seperate range of notes which are called sharp notes. You know those black keys on the white keys on the piano? Something like that. As some of the slider notes are actually the same as some of the normal notes, we had to replace the normal notes with slider notes so we could get more used to using the slider.

Anyway we took the test and we passed.

But now, for the more interesting story of harmoc lesson (there's always interesting stories), it is an extremely unfair and unjust deal between Shide and myself. Yes. Extreeeemeeeelyy unfair.
Remember how the Jew loanshark wanted a pound of flesh in that whaddayacalltat Shakespear play? This is just a modernised version of the story where the price is much more cruel than just a pound of flesh.

As you all may have read, most people didn't bring their harmocs. Yanwei was one of them. And Shide was another one of them. Cheeyeow, being a nice guy, decided to lend Shide his harmonica. However, Shide would not share the blessings of the harmonica with poor Yanwei. No matter how hard Yanwei pleaded and begged, and told Shide how many families he had to feed, Shide would not lend him the harmonica just for that one little tune he wanted to play to rehearse for his test, and the only form of practise for the test Yanwei had was singing the notes.

O'Lord Shide, pleaseth, lendth thy thou harmonica.....

Yes, singing. Not blowing a harmonica. Sick of Yanwei's incessant begging, Shide tries to find a way to make Yanwei go away. Shide thinks, "I ponned maths remedial with the NYAA Harmoc for excuse. And the teacher is hot after my ass for my Maths Assignment which I haven't done. And I am supposed to pass it up by today afternoon. How do I walk out of this classroom with a maths assignment which has been done?"
And yes, my friend, he gave me that look, into my saddened eyes, and I knew, my friend, that the deal was settled. I would blow one simple tune, Oh Sussana, on his (Cheeyeow's) harmonica, and I would be enslaved to eternal misery and chained to his maths assignment with shackles made of lead.

I started on all those radians and stuff. I mean who cares about sine cosine area rules, and who cares about trigonometrical ratios, and who cares about radians and formula for the area of segment. I don't know, but that is what maths is all about. I wonder if any non-mathematicians grow up, find a job, and look at circles and think about those formulas....well.
I mean like, try to find a head or tail out of this :

Ok maybe not that bad. But you get what I mean. And I tell you, doing a maths assignment like that is still OK. But if you try doing that in a room with 8 people blowing harmocs, you will seriously go nuts. But after much perserverance and frantic pressing at my calculator, I finally finished the assignment. And Shide looked like this:

And to end off this post abruptly, below are the scores for Oh Susanna.

Oh Susanna

5 5 A time of our lives! I just can't emphasize how fun it was! Certainly the time of our lives!!

Ok for those who don't really understand sarcasm, footdrill is boring. But it is something that we HAVE to do, because of all those "cool, hip, and trendy" Muster Parades which have come our way. Meanwhile for your information, the SU did pioneering.

So, before we did our footdrill, we did our stylo-milo Muster Parade. We did a dry run which lasted until somewhere at 4.15pm. Then the proper thing ended at 4.30pm.

Then, we were given a leisure time of 7 minutes to change up to PE from Scout Uniform. I am not being sarcastic here as 7 minutes is much more than what we are usually given. I even got some spare time to patronise the water-cooler =D

The goal of the footdrill can be easily explained by the simple diagram below:

===>>

(Rojak) to (some impressive army)

So, we practised our footdrill with Wayne, Chuyong and Zhixuan as timers. We practised a lot of commands, which I don't know how to spell nor pronounce. We learned sedia senangdiri, moving left right front back by 1/2/3 steps, size up commands, marching, turning right, left, and 180 degrees static footdrill. Although this was to us challenging, I tell you that the other uniformed groups with the exception of 01 (us) and 02 scouts, do more advanced footdrill EVERY session. We do it like once a year =D

After the end of footdrill, we didn't exactly achieve our goals of being some impressive army. But all the stamping of feet and marching on the spot allowed us to priviledged access to various facilities with this label :

Yea, our legs tanhuan-ed. Anyway, frankly, we felt that our footdrill improved quite a lot after all the hard work, but there is certainly room for improvement. I mean if those NCC cadets still have room for improvement, and they spend at least 2 hours a week on footdrill for EVERY week in their year, you get what I mean. But since the focus of scouting isn't on impressive footdrill, so I doubt anyone would really care about it. I think that those 5-10m high structures we build totally prawns footdrill. Everyone agree?

Ok, tata for now. The objectives of this parade is to foster a camaraderie and interaction between the officers and cadets of different uniform groups and to standardize a common muster parade procedure for all Raffles Institution Uniform Groups in future.

The activity started off with attendance taking, with the ventures having to do thirty seven push ups despite our count of "zero" latecomers, as well as the fact everyone handed in the parent's letter.
This guy must be from a Scout Group with a lot of latecomers

We later proceeded on with our activity proper. Initially we did combined muster parade rehearsal with the other batches, however, halfway through the the rehearsal, amidst the horse kicking, repeated "semula"s as well redoing of the whole procedure.

Our favorite Group Council decided that our footdrill is... cmi, and thus we were split into our batches for a crash course on footdrill.

For the next one hour, we did basic footdrill commands, and later proceeded on wioth muster parade rehearsal as a batch.

The activity then ended off at 4.30 pm after a final rehearsal with the Scout Unit.

Please don't mind my grammar. ;D
Pictures and captions by Yanwei =D

Pole Management & VEXCO meeting

Yesterday, Sarun continued on his QM regime and began working on the poles at Braddell Westlake Secondary School. We re-painted all the poles and re-marked their heights, since their colour was fading and the height measurements were mostly grossly inaccurate.

5 hours under the hot sun and we were rewarded with an arsenal of much better-looking poles which are now more organised and easier to pick out. Of course, that wasn't the only reward -- the entire troupe was presented with 8 bottles of soft drinks. =)

Following the activity the members of the VEXCO could only take a breather before proceeding on with the meeting at 2:50. It would be the first VEXCO meeting for the year where many issues were to be discussed in depth, and as a mark of how seriously we took the meeting, we all reported for the meeting in full scout uniform.

As expected, the meeting ran over time with many new issues brought up. Since the blog is open to the public, details and minutes of the meeting will not be posted here. However, all can be said is that we had a very fruitful meeting which lasted for about 2 and a half hours. =)

After Jeremy declared the meeting close at 5:35 thereabouts, the ventures went off for soccer, albeit having already spent so much energy for the day.

It seems Chu Yong is really an energizer bunny. >_>

Not Another QM Session....

Act started off with footdrill, and then there was the batch project meeting. I had managed to pon two PT sessions – today’s, and Monday’s (cos I was doing QM stuff =D). Well is my fitness good? The answers to such questions are rather obvious rite…
So anywaes, that morning I saw an ad for Men’s Health magazine in the papers – it had the following subtitles: Get back in Shape, a flat tummy by Feb, use food to fight fat etc. Well, the Man looks Nearly As Good As Me..
Hahas… I could use those tips =)

Anywaes, we had foot drill out in the raffles square which was really hot. Most of the Sec 2s were fidgeting(n some sec 3s n 4s) – I tink we might need really serious foot drill sessions like that in SUTC. Foot drill is not easy but if every other cca can execute it perfectly n win competitions, I think we cn too… But I lyk the part when we demonstrated our sizing up n all… the ‘bang!’ was good – loud n mostly together. But the disappointing part was the marching – it was rather screwed up….

Batch proj meeting was cool(the air-con temp was jus rite)… but quite boring…cos we kept going over the same thing again n again….

We should build ourselves another den or pole shed; I noe of a construction company that wouldn’t mind employing us…. Or we could go learn building at the college behind my house (batch proj anyone?)……

Oh n I appeal to you who read this to donate board games, carom seeds, balls, n anything that we can play wif to the den =D lets make the den a wonderful place to be at….

P.S. I can’t wait to roast frogs n eat them…
